Genie Intellicode programming guide
How to program a Genie Intellicode remote
Genie openers use more than one control layout. Identify the controls on your opener before choosing the matching sequence.
Find the Learn button →Preparation
Before you start
- Close the garage door and keep the door area clear of people, pets, vehicles, and objects.
- Confirm that the remote supports the Intellicode system installed in your opener.
- Work from the opener powerhead controls; do not remove a fastened cover.
Programming sequence
Follow these steps
Identify the control type
Look for either a square PRG/SET button or a Learn Code button on the opener powerhead.
Enter programming mode
For PRG/SET controls, hold the square button until the round LED turns blue, release it, then wait for the long LED to flash purple. For Learn Code controls, press and release Learn Code and confirm that the red LED flashes.
Send the remote signal
Press and release the chosen remote button three or four times, pausing briefly between presses, until the opener responds.
Test the remote
Stand clear of the door and press the programmed button once to confirm a normal door cycle.
Troubleshooting
If it does not work
- Repeat the branch that matches the controls actually printed on the opener.
- Confirm the remote is an Intellicode-compatible model and check its battery.
- If an added receiver is wired beside the opener, follow that receiver’s instructions instead.
